As I embarked on the journey of creating ‘Naked us,’ initially focused on providing a safe space for women to share their stories openly, I soon realized the necessity of broadening my perspective to encompass individuals of all genders and backgrounds. While my initial focus stemmed from my experiences as a Korean woman navigating societal pressures, my interactions at California State University Long Beach, where I lived among friends from diverse cultural backgrounds, provided invaluable insights that transcended gender boundaries.

Living among individuals navigating societal biases and stereotypes surrounding their sexuality deepened my empathy and broadened my perspective. These interactions led me to understand that inclusivity goes beyond gender and must also consider race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and various other facets of identity.

During my fall 2023 internship at the Women’s Foreign Policy Group in Washington D.C., my perspective underwent a profound shift. It was there that I met Y, a dear friend originally from Haiti, whose perspective challenged me to reconsider my definition of inclusivity. Her gentle encouragement to incorporate illustrations representing black women in the game’s second version opened my eyes to my oversight and the importance of intersectionality in fostering true inclusivity.

This pivotal moment served as a powerful reminder that our journey toward inclusivity is ongoing and dynamic. It underscored the fact that while my initial intentions may be noble, true inclusivity requires constant reflection and adaptation. I am committed to continuously developing ‘Naked us’ to ensure that it authentically represents and empowers all individuals, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, or background.
